The Question About Is The BBB A Scam Is Asked All Too Often

By Minnie Whitley

The BBB started in 1912 as a way to enhance the security of those who wonder who is a good business and who is not. The reports that people rely on to make this decision comes from the professionals who look into these companies. Being skeptics, many people would also ask questions such as is the BBB a scam and they might have a lot of others answering in different ways.

The vast majority of companies who belong to this organization pay a yearly fee for this privilege. That does not necessarily mean they are buying a favorable report when someone calls. It can look like that and many stories, in the newspapers and on television, might lend some weight to that thought.

The Internet has created a lot of opportunities for people, both honorable and not so honorable. The BBB seal can, and has been, used on some not so honorable websites. This is an easy seal to copy and paste into the site code and looks like this site is recommended or at least follows the BBB codes of conduct. Of course, it is not the case in every incident.

Most people do not know that have the opportunity to check on this seal. If it is a valid seal, it will be a click able link. This link will take the interested party to a Better Business Bureau page that will address the report it has worked up for the site from which they came. This is a good way of analyzing this seal if there is any question.

You, as private individual, will not be receiving any solicitation calls from the Better Business Bureau. They do place calls to other businesses offering any specials they may have on membership drives. The services they offer are available on a call in basis, unless they are following up on a complaint. They employ other methods of communication as all businesses do, such as emails and webinars in some areas.

When there are complaints of a scam happening, involving a branch of the BBB, they get going on checking it out. There have been people, employed by the BBB who have taken dishonorable liberties with their position. It is the policy of this organization to root these out for disciplinary actions. When problems are found at one branch it is also assumed it is at other ones. These are followed up on scrupulously.

Most people, working within the organization, can be counted on to do their professional best. Things get missed and some employees can get side tracked when it come to ethics, just like everyone else. They are on the lookout for anything that will mean dishonor to their name.

Their primary goal is to help create a clearinghouse of information about businesses and industries. This database will have many companies who do not live up to their claims and or fails, in a substantial way, to deliver what they offer. The presence of this organization has helped create a safer environment in which to do business and participate in trade within the United States.
