The Finer Points Of Drilling In Florida

By Elizabeth Morgan

Go to any beach and there will likely be at least one person with a metal detector. That person will be walking about hoping to find some form of buried treasure. In their mind, a pirate probably left something buried there, something of great value, and then time simply forgot about it. Maybe that pirate got killed or captured before being able to reveal the location of their buried treasure. Of course, more often than not, the person with the metal detector will end up with garbage. Maybe they will get some loose change that previous beachgoers lost, but for the most part, they are not going to end up with some long lost stash of pirate treasure. Of course, there are valuables hidden beneath the surface. It is just that they require more than a metal detector and a trowel to get to. They require drilling in Florida.

Drilling is a means of extracting resources from underneath the surface of the earth. This can be done inland. But it can also be done offshore via the use of special platforms.

Now, this is something that has to be done. Fossil fuels still provide a lot of power. Which means they are still needed to some degree.

Now, the most popular resource that springs to mind when drilling is mentioned is oil. But natural gases can be drilled as well. It is not just up to oil.

Now, the industry does have quite the economic impact. The fact is that it opens up quite a number of long term jobs in the areas. These jobs may require workers to be away from their families for extended periods of time, but they often come with handsome compensation packages. Not to mention that they do not generally require a college degree. It is for this reason that this industry can create a small scale economic boom.

But there are some drawbacks to such a job. For one thing, safety can be an issue. Working on a rig can net a high salary, but if something goes wrong on that rig, people can die. Which is why any industry that works with any kind of flammable or combustible fuel source should take the safety of its workers as its highest priority.

Then there are environmental considerations that have to be made. Wildlife is often displaced when the infrastructure is constructed. Then if something goes wrong, they can be affected by spills and leaks. Not to mention that the act itself produces a good deal of air pollution.

It is a complex process. Well, not really. It is a simple process, just with a lot of details in between. The drill goes into the earth, then the resources come out.

Being alive was never meant to be easy. That is the simple truth of the world. But humanity went ahead and made things easy because it was stubborn enough to do so. Of course, that ease needs to be powered, and that power needs to come from somewhere.
