Factors To Consider In Brass Embossing Engraving

By Pamela Taylor

Brass is widely considered for embossing and engraving due to its high versatility rate. Embossing is the process of making images on a surface by raising part of the item to create images on the other side. On the other hand, engraving is a process where designs and images are incised on a hard surface. These processes are common in custom budges, stamps and other common brass products. Here are factors to consider in brass embossing engraving processes

Use of laser technology. Laser based technology is the most modern method that is used in the etching process. There is no contact between the machine used and the product being etched making it suitable for making precise images. It is mostly used to make small details and handle small objects since it does not remove a lot of debris.

The use of computer numerical control method. It is a traditional etching process which relies on a computer controlled machine. The machines are suitable for making detailed decorations which are impossible to handle using hands. One can even make a two or three dimension figure using this procedure. It is common in decorating fairly large items such as trophies.

Hand etching. The entire process considers the level of experience that a craftsman has to achieve a remarkable outcome. The expert uses a unique pattern on a respective surface to create grooves. It creates deeper grooves compared with other methods and can also produce a two or three-dimensional image as well.

Use of foil to emboss. A foil is used to draw the image to be used in decorating, and then use it to draw the decorations on surface of a brass metal plate. The plates are supposed to be thin slice the drawings are deepened using a special stylus. It does not bring a suitable effect on the surface since it uses the pressure that is exacted by the craftsman.

The use of heat and pressure to emboss. Embossing techniques are quite different from the etching processes. Heat and pressure methods depend on special machine which use heat to emboss an image on a surface of a product. A special die is used in this process to ensure that the decorations are clear as well as a soft foil which contains the image. Common machines which are used include the roll press, clam-shell, and the straight press.

The combination process. The approach involves the use of a foil stamp and embossing at the same time. It starts with the embossing process then the foiling procedure to produce a clear image. There should be a very close registration that keeps the image and foil close to each other to produce a precise image. A combination die is used in this process to make it effective and is used to break excess foil away from the part which has been embossed.

Look for a reliable expert. It is hard to handle most of these processes unless are a professional craftsman. In that case, one is expected to rely on an experienced company to achieve his or her expectations. Consider a business which has a reputation for offering quality services and is actually registered with the right authorities. Besides that, it should deliver this service on time.
