The present banner of Argentina was formally adopted on February 12, 1812. The blue stripes upon a white field were put on the banner by Manuel Belgrano. The brilliant sun, with the Sun of May's face, was added to the banner in 1818.

The national banner of Argentina has three equivalent flat groups of light blue, white, and light blue with a brilliant yellow sun with a human face known as the Sun of May focused in the white band.
