Ways To Find Linguist Careers

By Joyce Murray

If you have just graduated with a degree in linguistics or other language related courses, there are only a few companies that have vacancies for your specific skills. To find linguist careers that suit your degree, there are several things that you can do. Make sure that your resume is ready before you start looking for a job.

One of the fastest ways to look for a job nowadays is through job websites. There are a number of them, yet you do not necessarily have to sign up for all of them. Choose just two or three of the most popular ones. That way, you can devote your time into creating a good profile, uploading your resume and searching for jobs that match your degree. Many of them are free, yet some also have paid options to boost your profile.

Newspaper classified ads are still a good way to find jobs. Some companies find successful applicants this way, so they still continue with this method to find applicants. Since it is likely that you just read your news from the Internet instead of daily newspapers, you can read the latest copies from your local library or coffee shop. Just prepare to copy or take a picture of the job postings you are interested in.

Some local companies have tie ups with government agencies and they post their open positions at local job boards. Check these from time to time to find out if there is an opportunity for you. The agency may also have an option for you to leave your resume with them so that they can refer you to local companies.

Keep track of the job posts at your school job board. You can do this by visiting the placement office or you can just view the website if opportunities have been posted there. Jobs posted here are likely from previous graduates and some companies who would like to help students and new graduates find their dream job. Some of the options are just for internships with possibilities for being a full-time employee.

While searching for a job, fill in your LinkedIn profile. This will be your online resume and will keep you connected with specialists in your chosen field. The networking site can also match you with available jobs if you select the option that you are open to new opportunities. Post relevant updates from time to time into your timeline.

In case you are still unable to find open opportunities relevant to your degree, you may start contacting human resource specialists in companies within relevant industries. Send letters to companies you believe that may need someone who specializes in languages. You can also use LinkedIn to connect with people with similar careers. You can inquire if they know of vacancies within their companies or similar companies.

To prepare yourself for job opportunities, make sure that you have prepared a good resume. For a new graduate, highlight the skills that you have learned from part-time jobs or school activities. You should also mention relevant competitions you've joined or researches you've participated in. Show companies that you have the right skills and attitude and they will be more than willing to give you an opportunity.
