Reasons To Rekey Locks Providence

By Kenneth Olson

Security sees to the safety and well-being of the people that live in the home and assets that are housed within. When security is compromised, there is a sense of anxiety and in some instances, people can get hurt. It is important to ensure that all aspects of security of the home are in check especially when the keys are those that were issued by a previous owner or contractor. In such a case you would need to have Rekey Locks Providence.

It is not safe to stay with the bolts that you found in the home when you move into it. It is vital to ensure that you change them immediately you move in. This is not to say that the previous owner of the home or contractor is devious and may plan to break into your home. The concern is more of a safety feature.

There are many reasons for changing the locks in your home but the most common one is to have sole control of the security of your home. When moving into a new home whether it is new construction or you bought it from someone else, it is important to make sure that you change the bolts of all the doors. This is because you are not sure who else has access or has a key that can open the doors compromising your security.

Should the culprit found be someone who had access to the keys, you are likely to lose out on any payment from the insurance company due to negligence. If you had taken time to change the bolts of your home or had them re-keyed then you would not have had to deal with the misfortune of a break in. The insurance company will therefore lay part of the blame on your doorstep.

In instances where the home is new, contractors normally have the master keys to the home. As much as they surrender any keys they have to the home, there are still some pins and springs within the lock that can be opened by anyone with a master key. Rekeying gets rid of any pins that can be opened by a master key.

Rekeying is pretty much the same as replacing the locks as the aim is to make sure that no other key can open the bolts other than the one you have. As the term suggests, replacing the locks is changing them entirely. Rekeying, on the other hand, is basically working on the existing bolts by changing the pins and springs within it so that no other key can unlock the bolts other than the new key.

It is normally much cheaper than replacing the bolts. It is a better option when handling your bolting security as you may have more than one lock to change or replace and that may prove very expensive. The beauty of rekeying is that the locksmith is able to find any existing issues with the bolts. If the issues are beyond him or her, they will then recommend replacing the bolts.

You should never take the security of your home for granted even when you are short of money. If you are not in a position financially to change the bolts of the house, settle for rekeying. This will ensure that anyone who had previous access to the home no longer has any access and only people who can access are those that you allow.
