Funeral Benefits, Eligibility And Reimbursements

Your family is facing a difficult and tiring time right now. Emotional turmoil is still present in your hearts due to the passing of a loved one. You and anyone who knew him will always remember that he had lived a life full of fulfillment. Due to this, the federal and state governments have made the veteran funeral benefits Texas available to you.

The Department of Veterans Affairs, or mostly called VA, regulates the monetary burial benefits to the family of the departed military officer. Consequently, the State of Texas and the Texas Veterans Commission have provided assistance through the benefits. It has been made available to their dependents and surviving family members.

They are to find a way to give the necessary details in regards to the benefit. You are given by TVC a brochure. This contains basic and necessary information in order for you to file the claim. It outlines all the details including VA headstones and markets, military honors, reimbursements, and most importantly, eligibility qualifications.

Firstly, you must ensure that you are eligible in order to be recognized by the VA. Your loved one should either be discharged from active duty or died while in active duty. His spouse and dependent children, if any, are also recognized to be eligible by law. If he is discharged, his reason for his removal and resignation from the military should not be dishonorable.

There are other qualifications for eligibility. He needs to have served for consecutive 24 months at a minimum as either an enlisted person or an officer from September 7, 1980 to October 16, 1981, respectively. He may also be a World War II Filipino veteran. Or, he was in the American Merchant Marines who had served from December 1941 to 1946.

Once you determined your eligibility, you are now entitled for the burial expenses reimbursement. The said expenses, however, may or may not be at full amount. This term also has many conditions that you should meet. Your monetary benefit depends upon the condition that applies to him.

If he died during active service, you are given of up to two thousand dollars in allowance. In the event that he was overseas at that time, the VA will provide the transportation of his remains to the national cemetery near your family home. In this case, you can claim the reimbursement any time for there is no time limit for service related deaths. This will allow you and your family time to grieve for the time being.

You will receive three hundred dollars if he was discharged and was entitled to compensation or pension. If his death occurred at any nursing home contracted by the VA, facility owned by VA, or nursing home for state veterans, then he is eligible for reimbursement. In this case, however, two years is the time limit for claims from the date of burial.

There are conditions that you need to meet if your loved one is to be buried in a non U. S. Jurisdiction cemetery. The plot allowance of $749 you will receive will not be given if it was not met. To be entitled, he had died at any VA owned facility, his pension or compensation barring military pay was received. Reasons for discharge were either because of aggravation or disability when in active duty.
