The Pros And Cons Of Clean Fracking Technology

By Linda Schmidt

Hydraulic fracturing is better known as fracking is a drilling method used for drilling both oil and natural gases from deep underground. Many argue that it is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective method while others see it as a major contribution to contamination in the world due to pollution level release to the atmosphere. The article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of clean fracking technology.

It is a major economic booster. For example, when the united states are able to provide natural gases and oil from themselves, they save the money they would have paid the middle east and Russia to provide them with these products. After a while, when they are able to export the products themselves, that will be a major source of income.

Unlike in burning of fossil fuels, carbon emission is a lot less. Carbon is one of the major causes of global warming and with its production reduced, the ozone layer is much safer. It is enough to sustain a whole country until they can be able to draw from the natural resources like the wind and the sun. This can actually stop the continuous depletion of the environment.

It is a source of employment. Mining of any sort promises a lot of job for both unskilled and skilled workers. The whole thing is a process that requires people present at all the stages. The drilling is done 24hours a day which means that there will be an opening for jobs in all the states engaging in the activity. Crime goes down, and the economy improves.

Like everything else, fracking also does have a negative side to it. As much as it has done a lot of good, there are some bad things. One of them is harm to people and the environment. Driving tankers is a source of employment, but if one were to explode amidst traffic, a lot of lives would be lost. The drilling noise may also affect people living around.

You may not be aware of this, but drilling requires the use of water. Considering it can be done up to 24 hours a day you can imagine how much water is used up. Seeing as there is a drought spell in some parts of the country, the water used in drilling could be donated to help out the people in these drought-stricken areas.

There is the possibility of water contamination. When drilling a water pipe may accidentally be hit. It may cause for chemicals to go into the water, therefore, causing the disease to the surrounding community. There have also been complaints by homeowners about discovering traces of chemicals in their water pipes which may have led to serious illness.

Sometimes, the company does not take the well-being of the workers seriously. People fall sick in the line of work. They may be injured or just inhale harmful gases. There also may be a fire which will be very hard to survive especially in an oil filled area.
