Advice On

By George Dodson

If you haven't had a job yet, you should understand that a workplace is practically your second home. Some spend a lot more time at work because they quite don't have any other choice. If you're spending a lot of time at work then you'll have greater chances of being stressed instead of course if you have stress relievers at work such as friends. For some, having friends at work is not an important thing however they probably do not know what they are missing.

Friends at work or within your working environment will provide you with an extra hand should have too much work to finish in a day or in a limited time. Friends in the workplace also provides you with eyes that can monitor your work performance thus being able to see what you lack and the subjects where you are not effective at and eventually fix those. Friends in the office can also come in handy should you be in emotional. Having good friends at work, the best in you will be brought out and you can work with ease.

The question however is, how do you earn this good friends at your workplace? In the case of a newly hired employee looking to make friends in the new environment, here are the suggestions.

Make a good first impression

This probably the oldest advise in the book when trying to make people remember your name or who you are. The moment you are introduced to a new colleague, be sure to give a great good impression. With the great good impression, people will think that you are worth getting interested in and is worth getting to know thus aimed to be friends with.

A part of this first step is remembering people's names as you are introduced. Remember the names will make it easier for you to approach these people.

Dine with your co-workers

As workers go to their lunch breaks in groups, you can join in and try to make friends with them. If co-workers would invite you, be sure to go - never refuse as doing so would mean you are not interested in making friends. Lunch breaks are also the only hours at work where people can discuss on any topic freely and express or do pretty much anything they want. This will be a perfect opportunity for you to inform people about you as well as get to know the things you have in common with them.

Try to be more open-minded

Unfortunately, not all people in the work neighborhood will be willing to take you in as a friend. Thus, you will need to understand that and be open-minded about it. Open mindedness in this situations will allow you acceptance of your situation as well as formulation of a plan for those people who dislike you to like you. Your being open minded not only helps you deal with making friends but can also show others how you can work with a team.

Do not rush

The last component of making friends effectively is that you should take your time. Certainly you can make friends within the day but that should not be your foundation of a 'real' friendship. However, it also shouldn't take a year before you can have a friend at your work place. Making friends happens naturally and when it does it lasts a lifetime.
