Suggestions For Small Business Security Improvements

By Mark Mahaffey

If you own your own business, you have no doubt worked hard for your success. It would be a shame to lose it or suffer significant loss just because you did not take the time and money to adequately protect it with a business security system. Now is the time to make the right choice and protect your business before tragedy strikes.

The first step in choosing the best security system for your business is to decide what kind of threat you are protecting yourself against. There are many kinds of threats. One type is a threat from the outside. This includes someone outside your company trying to steal from you or vandalize your building.

An internal threat comes from someone in your business. Maybe you have suspected some of your employees are taking money from the cash register or wasting time while on the clock. Worrying about this is normal, because obviously you cannot watch your workers all the time to see what they are doing and how they are behaving.

Happily, there are some actions you can take to decrease the chances that you will fall prey to either of these kinds of security threats. Step one is to put in a camera system. This will make it possible for you to watch over your business even when you can't physically be there.

By installing cameras outside your building, you can keep an eye on areas such as parking lots, sidewalks, doors and windows. You can set up cameras that will activate if any motion is detected, so you not only get a good recording of the activity, but you can also make the decision whether to call the police long before the crook even realizes he has been seen!

Indoor cameras are important too. You obviously want to know how your employees are spending their time. Are they stealing from you? Put cameras in areas such as the cash register, the back room and even out on the floor. This will give you a good view of the behavior of your workers. And if you have to provide evidence in a court of law, you can simply use the recording from the cameras.
