How To Make A Flower Bed With Tires

By George Dodson

A good way to save on fruit and vegetables is to grow your own, like your parents may have done. It is not difficult to do it and not at all costly. You will thoroughly enjoy the freshness of a garden vegetable. In addition, you can grow your own herbs. Store bought produce cannot be as good as that which you grow fresh from the garden. You also get the satisfaction of a produce, you have created yourself. Also you are the person controlling what is added to the production. As the grower, you are sure there are no preservatives, all is natural and fresh.

Many people who would like to garden, just dont have the room for long rows of carrots or large spaces to grow squash or melons. For that reason, they need an alternative. Planting a garden in a range of small spaces may be an answer. A great reason for this is that you can cater for your needs but still plant more for later harvests. Try planting in old tires, it can really work.

You can find many places where you can get these for free. You might them for only $5.00 in other places. If you plan to do some regular planting you will need about 5 tires. Large jobs will obviously need a lot more, maybe double the amount.

You might think that these old tires dont look that good. What will the neighbors think? Of course you can always cover them in ways that will improve how they look. To increase their attraction try putting them in wooden boxes. Try making them look better by cutting the tires to look like flowers and then paint them. Try, as a stand, the rim of the tire.

Decide on a place where you are going to put them and prepare the soil, by cultivating it down to 4 inches. The roots of plants need to grow as deep as possible to be healthy. Always use good soil for planting. A local store, Home Depot or a Lowes will stock this. Follow the instructions on planting the seed and fertilize well. It is vital that water well but not too much. The little garden will keep you supplied with all you need. Plenty of money will be saved as you wont have to buy your fresh produce from a store.
